A Once-in-a-Lifetime Journey

On August 2, 2027, one of the most extraordinary astronomical events of our lifetime will take place: a total solar eclipse visible in full totality along a narrow path crossing Egypt. Luxor sits directly within that path of totality, and for a matter of minutes, day will turn to night over the temples of the Pharaohs. This is not simply a solar event; it is an intersection of natural wonder and ancient history that will not repeat itself in this place for generations to come.

This 12-day, 11-night program is built around that singular moment, framing it within an immersive journey through the greatest landmarks of Egypt. You will spend three nights at the Fairmont Nile City in Cairo, one of the city’s most distinguished luxury properties overlooking the Nile, before boarding the 5-Star Deluxe City and Sea Adonis for a seven-night all-inclusive cruise from Luxor to Aswan. Your final night is spent at the Le Méridien Cairo Airport Hotel, located directly inside Cairo International Airport for a seamless departure.

Along the way, you will visit the Pyramids of Giza with an exclusive lunch at the legendary Mena House Hotel, explore the Grand Egyptian Museum and its complete Tutankhamun collection, walk through the atmospheric Coptic Quarter and ascend to the Citadel of Saladin, sail the Nile between ancient temples, attend a private astronomy lecture, witness the total solar eclipse from the ship’s Sun Deck or from the facade of Luxor Temple itself, sail a rarely navigated stretch of the Nile to the Hathor Temple at Dendera, explore the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo, visit the island temple of Philae in Aswan, enjoy a sunset felucca sail, and journey to Abu Simbel to witness the rock-cut temples of Ramses II.

Every detail of this program has been designed with care: from the papyrus certificate commemorating your experience, to the gala dinner on eclipse night, live entertainment onboard, an on-board physician, a dedicated hygiene and quality specialist, and 24-hour guest support throughout. Nothing has been left to chance.

This is the most important journey we have ever offered. Places are strictly limited to preserve the quality and exclusivity of the experience for every guest.

Itinerary program

Your journey begins the moment you land. Our representative will welcome you at Cairo International Airport with a personalized sign, assist with visa formalities and luggage, and transfer you to the Fairmont Nile City. This first day is entirely free of excursions. Settle in, and take in your first views of the Nile. The program begins properly tomorrow.

After breakfast, your certified Egyptologist guide leads you to the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx, two of the most extraordinary monuments ever built. At midday, an exclusive included lunch at the Mena House Hotel puts the pyramids directly in your sightline across the gardens. In the afternoon, the program continues to the Grand Egyptian Museum, home to over 100,000 artifacts including the complete treasures of Tutankhamun, displayed together for the first time. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

The morning begins at the Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which traces Egypt’s story from prehistory to the modern era. From there, a walking tour through the Coptic Quarter visits the Hanging Church, the Church of St. Sergius, and the Ben Ezra Synagogue. After a included lunch at a selected restaurant, you ascend to the Citadel of Saladin for sweeping views over Cairo and visit the magnificent Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali. Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your included domestic flight to Luxor. On arrival, you are welcomed aboard the City and Sea Adonis and shown to your cabin. The afternoon takes you to the Karnak Temple Complex, the largest religious structure ever built, with its iconic hypostyle hall, towering obelisks, and sacred lake. As evening falls, the day closes with a visit to the Luxor Temple, illuminated after dark, its colonnades and colossal statues transformed by the night light. Dinner and first overnight on board.

The morning crosses to the West Bank of Thebes for one of the program’s most iconic days. You visit the Valley of the Kings, including the tomb of Tutankhamun, and the breathtaking mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, built into the cliff face at Deir el-Bahari. The Colossi of Memnon complete the morning’s tour. At 2:00 PM the ship departs on a scenic sail to Dendera, a rarely operated stretch of the Nile offering palm-lined banks and uninterrupted river views from the sun deck. Dinner and overnight on board.

The day before the eclipse is devoted to the ancient connection between Egypt and the sky. At Dendera, you visit the Temple of Hathor, renowned for its extraordinary astronomical ceiling reliefs depicting the zodiac and celestial cycles. It is a fitting and deliberate prelude to what happens tomorrow. Back on board, as the ship returns toward Luxor, your Egyptologist and an invited astronomy specialist deliver an exclusive illustrated lecture on the celestial science of the Pharaohs, the mechanics of totality, and exactly what to watch for in the sky. Dinner and overnight on board.

A day unlike any other.

After breakfast, a final briefing prepares you for what lies ahead. The City and Sea Adonis will be strategically docked at a prime location on the Nile, steps from Luxor Temple, placing you in one of the most extraordinary vantage points anywhere on Earth to witness the total solar eclipse. From the open Sun Deck of your 5-star ship, or from the facade of Luxor Temple itself for those who wish to experience it on land, you watch as the sky deepens, the temperature drops, and the moon slowly covers the sun completely. The corona appears. Stars become visible in the afternoon sky. The ancient temples of Upper Egypt stand around you in silence. Totality over Luxor on August 2, 2027 is among the longest of the 21st century, and there is no finer place to experience it than here, surrounded by thousands of years of history on every side. This moment is the reason this entire program exists. A celebratory lunch onboard marks the afternoon as the ship sets sail toward Edfu. In the evening, a gala dinner with live music and entertainment closes the day in style. Overnight onboard.

The ship sails south to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, its massive pylons and carved reliefs as vivid today as they were two thousand years ago. In the afternoon, the double temple of Kom Ombo sits directly on the Nile bank, dedicated simultaneously to the falcon god Horus and the crocodile god Sobek. Its late afternoon light over the river is exceptional. Dinner and overnight on board.

The ship arrives in Aswan, widely regarded as the most beautiful city on the Egyptian Nile. A short motorboat crossing brings you to the Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis and set on its own island amid smooth granite and glittering water. The afternoon visits the Aswan High Dam, one of the great engineering achievements of the modern era, before ending with a felucca sail on the Nile as the sun descends over the desert. Dinner and overnight on board.

An early morning departure for the journey to Abu Simbel, the rock-cut temples of Ramses II carved directly into the sandstone cliffs above Lake Nasser. Few places on earth combine architectural ambition with astronomical precision the way Abu Simbel does: the inner sanctuary is aligned so that sunlight penetrates to the very back of the temple on two specific dates each year. For a group that has just witnessed a total solar eclipse, the resonance here is immediate. Your Egyptologist guide will make that connection vivid. Return to Aswan and overnight on board.

After breakfast, the cruise comes to an end and guests disembark. Transfer to Aswan Airport for your included domestic flight back to Cairo. Upon arrival, our representative escorts you to the 5-star Le Méridien Cairo Airport Hotel for your final overnight stay. Overnight at Le Méridien Cairo Airport Hotel.

Your final morning takes place in the elegant surroundings of the Le Méridien Cairo Airport Hotel, one of Cairo’s most distinguished five-star properties situated directly inside Cairo International Airport, mere steps from your departure terminal. This arrangement is entirely intentional, a carefully planned detail of the Total Solar Eclipse Grand Egypt Tour, ensuring your last hours in Egypt are spent unwinding rather than navigating city traffic. Rise at whatever hour suits you and savor a complimentary full breakfast at the Le Méridien, included with your package, before making your way to the gate at your own pace, whether your flight leaves at dawn or well into the evening. No transfers needed, no unnecessary pressure, simply a smooth and effortless farewell. You leave Egypt carrying not only the memories of witnessing the total solar eclipse over the ancient temples of Luxor, but also the quiet certainty that one of the world’s greatest civilizations will always be here, ready to welcome you back.

Please note that while the great majority of our itineraries proceed exactly as planned, minor adjustments may occasionally be necessary due to circumstances beyond our control, such as weather conditions or local logistics. Daily timing will be communicated by your guide. The overall content and quality of the program will always remain the same.

About the Total Solar Eclipse of August 2, 2027

Where you watch a total solar eclipse matters enormously. The event unfolds across the full 360° of the sky, and anything that blocks your horizon steals part of the experience. Our team spent considerable time studying every possible viewing option in and around Luxor, and their conclusion was unambiguous.

Temples are extraordinary places on any ordinary day. But on August 2, 2027, they will be anything but ordinary. Luxor is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of eclipse visitors from around the world, and the temples will bear the full weight of that. Karnak and Luxor Temple will be packed beyond comfort, with crowds so dense that moving freely will be nearly impossible. You will be surrounded by noise, equipment, and strangers pressing in from every direction at the exact moment you need stillness and space. Worse, the walls, columns, and enclosures that make these temples architecturally magnificent are the very things that will cut off your sightline. You may miss the shadow wall, the moon’s umbra, rushing toward you across the desert at over 1,700 kilometres per hour in the minutes before totality. The full 360° sunset effect that sweeps the horizon the instant the sun disappears will be blocked on every side. You will have travelled across the world for six minutes and twenty-two seconds, and the architecture will take some of it from you.

Our experts considered every option carefully. Hotels, open desert, the West Bank, the temple sites, the rooftops. After examining sightlines, crowd projections, logistics, and the specific way this eclipse will unfold in the sky above Luxor, their conclusion was the same: the open Sun Deck of the City and Sea Adonis, positioned on the Nile, is the finest possible place to witness this event.

On the Sun Deck of the City and Sea Adonis, none of the problems above exist. The ship will be strategically docked at a prime location on the Nile, steps from Luxor Temple, selected specifically for panoramic, unobstructed views in every direction. The horizon is wide open. The Nile stretches ahead and behind you, the desert lies to the west, and the temples of Upper Egypt form the skyline around you, present and beautiful but never in the way. You can turn freely, face any direction, and take in the full dome of the sky as it transforms above you. The reflection of the corona and the darkened sky shimmering in the river beneath the ship adds something that no temple courtyard, no rooftop, and no open field can replicate. And you experience every second of it from the deck of a 5-Star Deluxe vessel, in the company of a small, carefully prepared group of fellow travelers, not a crowd of thousands jostling for position and blocking each other’s view.

And for those who still dream of standing before an ancient temple as the sky goes dark, you can. Because the ship is docked just steps from Luxor Temple, guests who wish to experience totality on land are free to walk to the temple facade and witness the eclipse from there. You have both options, and the choice is entirely yours. No other program gives you this flexibility: the unobstructed panoramic views of the Sun Deck, or the timeless drama of a 3,400-year-old temple silhouetted against a blackened sky, both within minutes of each other.

There is simply no better place on Earth to witness this eclipse. Our experts looked for one. They found the City and Sea Adonis on the Nile.

A total solar eclipse is not simply a dimming of the light. Inside the path of totality, the sky goes dark in the middle of the afternoon, the temperature drops, the horizon glows with sunset colours in every direction simultaneously, and the sun’s corona blazes into view with the naked eye. The difference between a partial and a total eclipse is not a matter of degree. It is a completely different experience.

The 2027 eclipse is one of the longest of the entire 21st century, with totality lasting 6 minutes and 22 seconds over Luxor, roughly twice the duration of a typical total eclipse. Luxor sits almost perfectly at the centre of the path, and the sun will be nearly directly overhead at the moment of maximum eclipse, meaning the corona will blaze at its most dramatic in a completely open sky.

The partial eclipse begins at 11:40 in the morning. Totality strikes at 13:02 and lasts until 13:08. Maximum eclipse peaks at 13:05. Then it is over, and the next comparable eclipse over this region lies generations away.

Luxor is already one of the greatest concentrations of ancient monuments on earth. On August 2, 2027, it becomes something more. Be on the City and Sea Adonis when it happens.

This is a once-in-a-generation event. The eclipse will happen with or without you, but only a small number of people will witness it from the deck of a luxury Nile cruise ship, accompanied by an expert Egyptologist, surrounded by the temples of Upper Egypt, in the company of fellow travelers who understood what this moment represents and chose to be here for it.

Secure your place early.

About the Total Solar Eclipse of August 2, 2027

A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, completely blocking the solar disc from view at points along a narrow corridor on the Earth’s surface. Outside this path of totality, observers see only a partial eclipse. Only within the path does the sky go dark, the corona become visible to the naked eye, and the full emotional and sensory impact of the event become apparent. The difference between a partial and a total eclipse is not a matter of degree; it is a completely different experience.

The total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027 is one of the longest in the 21st century. The path of totality crosses North Africa, and Luxor sits almost perfectly within it. The duration of totality in this region will be among the longest anywhere along the path, providing an extended and exceptional window for observation.

Luxor is also, by any measure, one of the greatest concentrations of ancient monuments on earth. The combination of this specific eclipse, this specific location, and this specific moment in the history of our species makes August 2, 2027 a date that no serious traveler should allow to pass unwitnessed.
